It can be alarming if your portafilter doesn't make it to the center of the grouphead, or doesn't sit at a 90° angle out of the box, but the great thing is that this is completely normal!
Series 1 uses a commercial-style 58 mm grouphead, meaning there is no fixed “hard stop” when inserting the portafilter. Instead, the tightening point can shift over time as the group gasket naturally breaks in and slowly compresses with use.
As long as the portafilter is tightened until it's snug and sealed, there's no need to aim for a specific position, and your shot should pull correctly!
