What is a Jam?
Before we discuss how to unjam your Ode, it's important to define what a true Jam is. We define a jam as when the burrs aren't able to physically spin/grind coffee properly, resulting in an SOS beep. In case it's helpful, we've included an example of this below.
If you're experiencing the coffee beans not dropping down into the burrs properly, or your Ode is stopping before all the beans are finished being ground, you probably have a clog on your hands instead. To read more about clogs and what to do about them, refer to our help center article here.
How Do I Clear a Jam?
To clear a jam, please follow the steps in the video below.
Make Sure to Calibrate Your Burrs
We always recommend recalibrating your Ode's burrs each time you unjam it. This ensures that the burrs are the correct distance apart from one another and will help ensure your Ode continues to grind properly. To recalibrate your burrs, please follow the steps in the video below.
What to Do if Jams Continue to Occur
If your Ode continues to jam after performing the steps above, we recommend trying the following:
- Start your Ode before pouring in your coffee
- Break up any doses larger than 30-40g (it can vary based on coffee variety, size, etc.) into smaller pours, allowing one to finish before pouring the next, especially with darker, more oily coffees
