Having metal shavings coming out of your Ode can be really surprising and may lead you to believe that you're messing up your burrs by accident. There's no need to worry though! The shavings you're seeing aren't coming from your burrs (they come from the back of the auger for all the nerds out there), and fixing it is relatively straightforward. By following the steps below, you'll be able to get your Ode back to grinding properly!
- Unplug your Ode
- Turn the dial to 11 (or as far clockwise as you can) and then remove the faceplate with the numbers on it. This should be able to pull right off, though you might have to pull a bit.
- Unscrew the four smaller screws behind the dial to remove it and access the calibration wheel. These are the ones located at 12, 3, 6, and 9 if you're looking at it like a clock.
- Turn the stepped dial COUNTER CLOCKWISE until you begin feeling resistance
- Turn the dial back CLOCKWISE 15 individual clicks
- Calibrate per the instructions in this video, beginning at 09:12
Once you finish those steps, it's going to be important to either run a few cycles of coffee through the burrs to make sure all the extra metal shavings have been removed or use some grinder cleaning tablets like the ones here. The last thing we want is for there to still be shavings in your grounds!
