All Drops coffees can be used for espresso with the right recipe. Each drops coffee we offer is compatible with espresso brewing, and we provide recommended espresso recipes to help you dial in great results regardless of roast level.

Roast levels and espresso

Light, medium, and dark roasts can all be used for espresso. The difference comes down to flavor profile and how you dial them in:

• Light roasts often produce brighter, more complex, and fruit‑forward espresso.

• Medium roasts tend to be more balanced, with sweetness and body.

• Dark roasts typically create a fuller‑bodied, more traditional espresso with deeper, richer flavors.

Your preferred roast level is completely based on taste there is no single “required” roast for espresso.

We offer dark roast espresso coffees through Drops about once a month. These coffees are selected and roasted to perform especially well as espresso.
